What’s Included in an All-Inclusive Surf and Adventure Package in Costa Rica

Costa Rica all-inclusive surfing at Lamangata Luxury Surf Resort is a surf and adventure vacation where one package covers your ocean-view suite, gourmet meals, personal surf coaching with video analysis, and a choice of eight other adventures, from waterfall swims to wildlife hikes, so you can experience the best of Costa Rica in luxury.

Imagine a Costa Rica surf vacation where you wake up to the Pacific from your terrace, swim a few slow laps in the infinity lap pool before your first wave, and come back from the beach to a gourmet dinner with edible flowers from the garden.

It sounds almost too easy for a surf trip, especially if you’ve always pictured the rough-it version, the “I’ll live on rice and beans and sleep under a mosquito net” kind of week. Lamangata keeps the wild Costa Rica you came for, the jungle and the waterfalls and the breaks below Dominical, and sets you above it all in what one travel writer called “a jungle oasis perched high above the canopy.”

So your mornings go to the waves with a coach watching your pop-up, your afternoons go to a waterfall or the pool, and a chef, a driver and your own planner handle everything in between. You fly home a better surfer who spent the whole week being looked after.

What is an all-inclusive surf and adventure package?

An all-inclusive surf and adventure package is a Costa Rica vacation with your suite, your meals, your surfing and your adventures included in one stay. At Lamangata, that’s the Surf & Adventure Package.

Your mornings start with Costa Rican coffee on your terrace, ocean and jungle spread out below you. Then you head down to the Pacific. It might be your first time on a board or your twentieth year of surfing. You’ll surf as much or as little as you like, whenever you like, and spend the afternoon swimming below a waterfall or stretched out by the pool.

Every meal is chef-made. Tell the kitchen what you love and what you’d rather skip, and the gourmet cuisine quickly becomes a highlight of your day.

At night, the firepit is lit and the stars come out over the jungle.

With only six suites and a small team, you arrive as a guest and leave as family. Your week is bespoke to you, down to when you surf and how often, and stays start at only three nights.

The Surf & Adventure Package includes everything you need for a surf and adventure vacation in Costa Rica, so all that’s left to decide is how you’d like to spend each day.

Your accommodation: Your ocean-view suite opens onto a private terrace with 360-degree ocean and jungle views.

Three gourmet meals a day: Every meal is chef-made, with non-alcoholic drinks included and much of the fruit grown right on the property. Tell the kitchen what you love and what you’d rather skip. If you’d like to learn to make empanadas or ceviche, a cooking class is yours on request.

Welcome drinks and sunset hors d’oeuvres: You’re greeted with a welcome drink when you arrive, and every evening the hors d’oeuvres come out as the sun sets over the Pacific.

Surfing or an adventure every full day: On each full day, you choose a surf session with Junior or one of eight other included adventures. After three surf days in a row, you’ll spend a day on land.

Post-surf video analysis: Your session goes up on the big screen in the afternoon, where Junior shows you what your back foot was doing (it had plans of its own).

Surf equipment: You’ll ride Firewire surfboards, with a board matched to your level.

Chauffeured car service: A private car and driver takes you to every surf session and every adventure, and your board rides along with you.

Your Experience Designer: Your Experience Designer shapes each day around what you want, when you want it, whether that’s a surf session every morning or a slow day by the pool.

Getting here: On stays of six nights or more, your round-trip airport transfer is included too!

What a typical day on a Costa Rica surf vacation feels like

A typical day at Lamangata starts slowly, with breakfast on your terrace and a warm-up in the infinity lap pool. Then Junior takes you to the beach break with the best surf of the morning for your level.

Depending on the timing of your session, we can even arrange a gourmet lunch brought straight to you on the beach. You stay close to the water and keep working on your pop-up.

You’ll watch your session back with Junior whenever it suits you, after lunch or in the evening if the afternoon belongs to a waterfall. You can surf hard in the morning, then swap the afternoon for “a jungle adventure, a waterfall swim, or just a hammock and a view,” as founder Debbie Gruelle put it.

Between sessions there’s plenty of time to relax. The pool looks straight out at the ocean, and the teak-floored yoga studio is yours on request when you’d like to stretch out a surf morning. An open-air massage room waits for the afternoon your shoulders ask for one.

By sunset, you’re back by the pool with the view running from the jungle all the way to the Pacific.

Surf lessons for every level at our luxury surf resort

Surf lessons at Lamangata work for every level, because Junior coaches you where you are, whatever surfing experience you arrive with.

Junior is Lamangata’s head surf coach and Costa Rica’s 2024 national longboard champion. His coaching program, with the surf coaches alongside him, follows the Pool-to-Ocean Method. Every session starts with your pop-up in the infinity lap pool, where the water is calm and your coach can see every move. Lamangata’s track record is that 99% of guests stand up before the end of their week.

You’ll surf four beach breaks within 15 minutes of Lamangata, so each of your surf sessions lands on a wave that suits you. Dominicalito’s smaller, rolling waves are a beginner-friendly place to find your feet. Experienced surfers looking for more power head to Dominical Beach and Playa Hermosa. You can see them all on our beach breaks page.

As one lifelong surfer put it in a TripAdvisor review, Lamangata is “just lux enough to take the hassle out of your surf trip experience.”

Eight adventures on the Pacific coast included with your surf package

Beyond surfing, your package includes eight other adventures. On any full day you’d like to spend on land, you just pick one.

You can swim below Nauyaca Waterfall, only 15 minutes from Lamangata, or walk the Whale’s Tail, a sand spit in Marino Ballena National Park that appears at low tide. Hacienda Barú Wildlife Refuge takes you into the rainforest on foot. A chocolate tour or coffee tasting makes for the gentlest morning on the list.

You can also hike to Uvita Waterfall, climb Rocas de Amancio at low tide for a view down this stretch of coastline, or spend a lazy day on local beaches. The shops and cafés of Dominical are a short drive away. If you’d like more, horseback riding, ziplining and white-water rafting can be arranged too. The full list is on our excursions page.
